A Neighborhood Rabbit
“Hallo Rabbit,” he said, “is that you?” “Let’s pretend it isn’t” said Rabbit, “and see what happens.”
A.A. Milne
I’ve been looking through my photo library searching for this image, of a rabbit, I took while on a walk one summer. Everyone likes rabbits. They are adorable, tiny, balls of fur. I would be darling at being a rabbit.
Therein lies the problem. In the Chinese Zodiac, this is the Year of the Rabbit. I am not a rabbit, I am a rat. I am not interested in being a rat. Rats are not adorable, tiny, balls of fur. They have pointy heads, long hairless tails and sharp claws.

During my trip to China, I thought I was told rabbits are compatible with a rats. They are not. I even bought this little, silver, rabbit sitting on my vanity mirror. It’s sweet, however it doesn’t change the fact that I am a rat. So, I’ve decided to get over it. I will never be a rabbit.
At some point, we need to realize there are things about ourselves we just have to accept. Looking on the bright side, in the Chinese Zodiac, rats are thought to have rich imaginations and good observation skills.I can live with that.
