“Some guy said to me: Don’t you think you’re too old to sing rock and roll? I said: You’d better check with Mick Jagger”
Cher
Many years ago, I received this postcard to a new exhibit. When I checked with the gallery and found out the painting was $4,000, I framed the postcard. Sadly, I don’t remember the name of the artist. However, I do still love the image. To me it’s about being hidden in plain view. Something older women know a lot about.
Not all countries overlook the older woman. In France they are respectfully referred to as, “women of a certain age”. These are women who actually look their age and are comfortable with who they are. In the United States, we push a false notion that woman become less valuable as they age. “They are past their prime”. We do our best to overlook them.
Age is truly a state of mind. Don’t let anyone else make you feel less valuable because of a number and that’s all age is. It’s a number. You only become invisible if you let someone make you invisible. Enjoy life on your terms. You decide. Don’t give the power to someone else.
