A New Day

Sunrise Over the Pacific Ocean

The beginning is always today.

Mary Shelley

This Sunday morning we will awake to a new year. For many of us it signifies a new beginning. We make promises to ourselves about making positive changes in our lives. This is the year we will lose weight, follow an exercise plan, stop smoking, finish our degree or complete a multitude of other things we feel we should do.

As we become older many of us stop making New Year’s resolutions. Through the years, we have found that often our good intentions don’t have the strength to care us through the year. We became disappointed with ourselves that we didn’t follow through with our plans. We gave up. We quite.

My argument is that we don’t need to set January first as the beginning of our plans for self improvement. We can begin on our birthday, next month or next week. It’s just a day and tomorrow is another day. We can start over, we can try again. Nothing is set in stone. Make it up as you go along. You decide.

  1. “Make it up as you go along. You decide.” Some great advice. You only live once. You need to live the life you want. Thanks for the reminder.
