Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I want to change myself.— Rumi
Changes can be difficult and messy. This collage by Johnathan Saiz reminds me of the multitude of choices we face each day. What time should we get up in the morning? Should we have breakfast and if so, what should we eat? What are we going to wear? The decisions go on and on. Now let’s throw a wrench in it all and change our routine. Let’s do things in a different way.
When I decided to alter the appearance of my blog, I was faced with a multitude of options. At the end, I had to trust that my decisions were the right ones. One other adjustment I made had more to do with my writing than my blog layout. I decided to end my love affair with commas. Those of you that have followed my blog might have noticed my liberal and I concede not always correct use of commas. I am enamored with this tiny punctuation mark. I am working to put this infatuation a side.
Blog layout changes and using fewer commas are minor in comparison with life decisions. I know I can’t change the world. I would like to change some things about myself. There is a reason why we don’t like change. It’s hard. It’s a hard thing to accomplish and it’s a hard thing to accept when it is thrust upon us. We do the best we can.
