Loss

Mostly it is loss which teaches us about the worth of things.

Arthur Schopenhauer

“The angels share or les anges partagent” is a French term that refers to the percent of wine that is lost due to evaporation through the wooden sides of the barrel. The moment I read this expression it resonated with me. I believe in the presence of angels. Losses I have experienced in life could be easier to accept if I knew they were in the care of angels.

Lately, loss has been on my mind as a result of finding out our little, eight year old, Poodle Bichon, Hugo, has been diagnosed with a heart murmur. We will know more when a cardiologist examines him in April. At any time this condition can be serious. We are doubly concerned because of Hugo’s age. He is part of our family and we love him. Just the thought of losing him is hard. Someday, when we have to give him up, I hope I will be able to think of him begging for treats from the angels.
