Good Intentions

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.

Michael Altshuler

I don’t remember when I stopped making New Year’s resolutions. It was a while ago. Follow through is important to me. I guess I became tired of never successfully accomplishing what I set out to do. If you are one of those people who accomplish your resolutions each year, kudos to you. I stand in awe of your determination. When it became clear to me that, every year, what I had so earnestly resolved went out the window after a few weeks, I decided to be done with this particular exercise in failure.

A resolution is defined as a firm decision. No wiggle room there. When I read resolution, I hear the gavel coming down on the bench. This is serious. Instead, I now set intentions. An intention is an aim or a plan. My intention is to accomplish all the goals I have set for 2022. Semantics? I suppose, but I feel better about it. My intentions are good. If I don’t succeed, I’ll try again next year.

Life is filled with opportunities to feel bad about yourself, if you allow it. Begin the New Year by cutting yourself some slack. Set yourself up for success.
