Mentor

Denver Zoo

Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.

John Crosby

I like to imagine among this group of flamingos there might be one who if looking to another for advice on the best way to search  for insects. I’m not interested in scientific data spoiling my reverie. I would like to believe that in every species there are mentors. Someone to show the way.

Mentors have played an important role in my life. Especially, since I began writing this blog. Just last week, I received a email from another blogger. I wrote to ask her advice and she responded with generosity. It’s not a small thing for someone to take time out of their day to answer the questions of a complete stranger.

There is a Theosophical quote,“When the student is ready the teacher will appear.”  I believe this to be true and have seen it happen over and over in my own life. The universe often presents what we need in the moment.  Advice from a stranger, a book suggestion found in a review or editing aid offered by a friend. If only we are open to it.
