It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
My sister gave me a page-a-day calendar for Christmas this year. It sits on the desk next to my planner and I look forward, each morning, to seeing what the next photo will be. They are all scenes of Paris and bring back many beautiful memories. A small thing that gives me pleasure.
As I enjoyed today’s photo, I thought about how many little things there are in my life that give me happiness without my really being aware of it. Hugo, our Poochon, is one example. He has an intuitive look that makes him appear as though he knows exactly what I’m thinking and it always makes me smile. When I consider it, there are many things I take for granted in the moment. Our neighborhood squirrel who ate an entire, large, pumpkin I put out on the back porch for him, after Halloween. Finding a song, on Spotify, I had been looking for forever. Noticing Snowdrops poking out above the ground on an early spring walk. So many things I take for granted.
I’m going to make an effort to pay more attention to what is either not noticed or is easily forgotten. As our lives slow down, we have the luxury of time to notice the small stuff.
