Procrastinating

Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.

Spanish Proverb

Procrastination is, without a doubt, one of my biggest vices.I have no problem overlooking something I planned to do today until tomorrow or next week. Without much effort I can easily postpone it until next month. Once I decide to do it I find  it really didn’t take that long to accomplish and was fairly painless. None the less, when a task comes along I don’t want to do, no matter how easy it is to accomplish, I will continue to put it off.

For example, opening the mail. I despise opening all the envelopes, going through what needs to be shredded, filed or acted upon. It doesn’t take that long, once I sit down and do it. I’m aware the time it takes is only about ten or fifteen minutes. It doesn’t matter, I still put it off.

I guess we all have things that we wish we where better at doing or maybe, not doing. We put off small things like making a phone call to schedule an appointment or big things like dealing with a personal issue we know is causing us harm. I wish I had an easy answer to avoid procrastination. Maybe, the only solution is to just do it and be done with it. The most painful part of the action might be the delay. Once it’s done, we sometimes wonder why we didn’t do it sooner.
