Finding Peace Amid Chaos

Roses From My Friend

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.

Rumi

It’s one of those days when as I sit down to write, my mind cannot be corralled into one thought. It wanders scattered for place to place. Seemingly unable to settle on a topic or an idea. My thoughts race ahead of my fingers on the keyboard. Jumping, indiscriminately, from one notion to the next.

My intended topic concerns looking for respite during this time. We are continuously bombarded by reminders. What we thought to be rock solid is shifting sand. Disappearing as we stand helplessly by. Unable to find the tools necessary to prop it up.

So, there we have the problem. In the form of a solution, what respite can we find? Where can we unearth a few minutes of peace, a way from the constant barrage?

For me, surrounding myself with like-minded people helps. A quiet family dinner. A bouquet of roses brought by a friend. A shared discussion of concerns over a bottle of wine. The surprise of a handwritten letter from a dear confident.

Home creates an important space where I can re-group. Surrounded by those things that have meaning in my life. Flowers, artwork, looking out on a view of trees beginning to bud and bulbs pushing up through the ground. Soft jazz playing in the background. Take a minute to sit down with a cup of coffee and a favorite book. Relax and take a moment to breathe.

I have shared what helps me to find quiet. Maybe, there are other things you have found that gives you a few moments of tranquility. Whatever gives you peace, do that. Take some time out of your day and indulge in what makes you happy. The chaos will wait.

Peace be with you.

  1. I can relate. Home. List-making. Going for a walk. Seeking out quiet time to think and write. Cleaning my desk. They all help bring peace and calmness. Yes, the chaos can wait. Ha, ha.

    1. ⭐️ Relating to this. Sort of. I just heard a great quote. “You roll up your sleeves if you’re wringing your hands.”

    2. Just saw your blog is listed as “Not sending”. I have no idea what that means.

  2. I heard somewhere recently that where I am now is an accumulation of all my years of choices. Some were quick, while others were thought through meticulously and my life is quiet. It’s been this way since my daughter left the nest, but it’s taken time to get to know it and welcome it as the season I’m in for now. It’s kind of like God acknowledging that I’ve been in motion my whole life and I see the stillness as a gift. 🧡

      1. And maybe moments of peace have always been readily available, but when we’re younger, we’re too busy to notice it properly. On another note, I just have to share how obsessed I am with my letter from you. The paper, (OMG), green ink, magnificent card and wax seal filled my heart to overflowing. I’m not sure it will ever be stored in the box of letters! 🥰
