In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.
Eleanor Roosevelt
Looking through my photo library, I ran across this shot from several years ago. Some of the facial expressions reminded me of the different possibilities we have to choose from when reacting to various situations in our lives. It’s one of those things that is up to us and consequently, we can’t successfully blame anyone else.
Regret ,when it comes to our decisions, isn’t helpful. There have been many times in my life when I have said, ” If only….” If only I had said this or done that or not said this or not done that. Sometimes, we can go back and attempt to fix it. In many cases, we just have to live with the results and be willing to move on.
Unfortunately, advanced age doesn’t absolve us from responsibility for our choices or protect us from having to make them. It’s not something we can retire from. Life won’t let us. The only thing we can do is hope the many years of experience will help us to make better decisions.
