Taking Stock

Ravin in Red Elderberry, Sharon Guenther

The universe might be the director, but you are the editor.

Unknown

This print of a raven hangs by our front door. The artist is my friend Sharon Guenther, Rosehip Design Studio. Ravins have complex symbolism. They are thought to represent prophecy and insight and are highly intelligent. When I look at the image it reminds me to pay attention to my intuition. Especially, at this point in my life when my path is more important than ever.

Each year, as I approach my birthday, I take stock of where I have been and were I am going. This year it weighs heavier on me than in the past. As I become older my mortality becomes more glaring. I don’t mean this in a morbid way. It’s more of a whisper in my ear to get my act together. Suddenly, eighty, although still a few years away, looms closer. I ask myself,”What are you waiting for?” Tick, tick, tick the clock is moving.

These images of some of the places I have been are on the back of the door in our coat closet. They are not only reminders of past trips, but are a nudge to plan future travel.

There are so many things I still want to do. Places I want to go. As I near another birthday, I am stopping to adjust my priorities and make sure I’m headed in the right direction. Tick, tick, tick.
