Promise of Spring

Denver Botanic Gardens

I enjoy the spring more than the autumn now. One does, I think, as one gets older.

Virginia Woolf

I was thinking about spring when I came across this Virginia Woolf quote. Autumn has always been my favorite season, yet I find I am drawn to spring, more and more, as the years pass. Maybe, it does have something to do with age. Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth. It offers the promise of warmth and light.

As I was scanning my iPad this morning I came across a word game. The idea was to look at a scramble of words and pick the first three noticed. These words are meant to be a focus for the day. What I saw was worthy, balanced and abundant. Putting it into the context of spring, I might say, “I want to be worthy of the abundance spring brings. Balancing the positive characteristics of each season as it arrives”.

Worthy can be a hard one for me. I was brought up to believe we, as human beings, are never worthy. I was told, “Pride goeth before the fall”. Be careful of your ego. You might find out you aren’t as important as you think. I understand that this was meant to keep me from becoming self-satisfied and full of myself. Finding balance can be the challenge. I think what my grandmother was trying to teach me was, what we receive is given through grace and not because we deserve it. Not a bad thing to remember.
