Hidden Places

Above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you, because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely place. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.

Ronald Dahl

A few years ago, I put a chair and reading lamp next to a window in the bedroom. The window gets the morning sun and looks out unto a large, flowering tree. There’s an Alexia device to listen to music and a coaster close by for a cup of coffee or a glass of sparkling water. On the wall are two photos by a photographer I enjoy. It’s become one of my favorite places. I begin the day by sitting there to read my emails and texts while I enjoy the warmth of the winter sunshine. In the afternoon, I might sit with a book or my knitting and listen to music. Occasionally, when my husband is watching something on television, I’m not interested in, I escape to my chair in the bedroom. This little corner has become my special place to go and just be.

I’ve noticed, even though I no longer work full-time, I have a long list of things to do and places to be everyday. My messages seem to multiply as quickly as a delete them and I enjoy keeping in touch with friends and being busy. That said, sometimes, I appreciate being by myself. I want time to discover the magic of a new author, enjoy an exhibit from a museum posted on Facebook or listen to music I love. We all need a place we can go to feed our spirit, breathe, raise our awareness and replenish our soul.
