Dualities

Key Note, M. Teraway

The wisdom of the raven lies in its understanding of life’s dualities.

Proverb

I am fascinated by ravens. They are misunderstood, I feel. Often associated with death and the supernatural. On the other side, they are intelligent, social and devoted.

The etching of a raven with a key creates an interesting puzzle. The ability to problem-solving is another characteristic of the raven. The key could refer to a speech or, in music, a note on which a key is based. It could be something else entirely. Possibly, another duality.

This morning, I was reading a social media post written by someone I know. It expressed a political opinion. That seemed reasonable. The vitriol it inspired was less reasonable. When did it become okay to respond viciously to any comment we don’t agree with? Has polite communication become outdated?

Returning to the raven. Their ability to recognize life’s dualities is a useful skill. I don’t know if that’s why I bought the etching. It is something I think about when I look at it.

These are difficult times. Peace be with you.
