Man Plans, and God Laughs.
Yiddish Proverb
The new year, for me, has started out much like the Yiddish adage above. My vision for 2025 did not include health scares and a disabled elevator. I can be somewhat of a micromanager. Much to my disappointment God cannot be managed. Believe me I’ve tried.
I do my best to think positive thoughts. Occasionally, something appears that I did not plan on. If the situation is extremely troubling, I have the ability to detach myself. This, sometimes problematic, skill allows me to view the situation from above. Not as participant, but as an observer. Possibly, not the healthiest implement in my mental tool box, but it works. Fortunately, my current challenges don’t require any out of body experiences.
Circling back to God laughing. I believe God gives us free will. He is able to watch us from above and shake his head, I suppose. Amused at our arrogance in believing we have it all under control. Many times, I have heard a whisper in my ear saying, “You’re making a mistake.” Which I, to my detriment, often choose to ignore. If I am on top of it, I will file the lesson a way for the future.
Looking back, we can see the framework that got us to where we are. If we observe where we went wrong and learn from it, I believe God might applaud instead of laugh.
