The Christmas Village

Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.

(I revisited a post I wrote in 2021, and it’s filled with a sense of nostalgia. A few years ago, I decided to give my beloved Christmas Village away to a grandmother, believing she would find joy in sharing it with her grandchildren.)

I set up my Christmas Village last week, a heartfelt tradition that I had to put on hold last year. With the pandemic keeping us from gathering, I tucked it away, knowing that the process requires time and effort. This year, however, I felt a renewed sense of motivation as I invited a couple of close friends over for Christmas tea, happy to share the joy of this cherished display with them. So, with a mix of excitement and nostalgia, I dragged the box out and lovingly arranged it all.

As I stepped back to admire the display, happiness washed over me, filling my heart with warmth and nostalgia. I had created a vibrant life in my little village, where colorful lights twinkled like stars against the wintry backdrop, and it was more than just a decoration; it was a confirmation of the cherished connections we have and the traditions that bring us together, especially during this special time of year. Every tiny figurine and twinkling light evoked memories of laughter shared and stories exchanged, all woven into the fabric of our shared life.

 I think about our friends, who will gather around to marvel at the details, creating new memories as we celebrate the holiday together, reliving those moments of magic that can only be found when hearts come together in celebration. As we sip our tea and reminisce about the past, the village will come alive with the spirit of the season, igniting a sense of belonging and creating bonds that strengthen with each passing year.
