When we’re older, let’s meet every Sunday at four in the cute little cafe we love. Let’s laugh at our foibles, our mishaps, and then release our mistakes to above.
Donna Ashworth
I am grateful for my friends. We aren’t able to meet in a charming cafe in New Orleans, but we still manage to connect often. We share lunch, a glass of wine, or maybe just a cup of coffee in our cozy living rooms, where the warmth of friendship surrounds us. In those moments, we share our stories, reminisce about the past, and laugh at our misadventures, creating a tapestry of memories that binds us closer together.
Some friends I’ve known for forty years, walking with me through the ups and downs of life, while others I only met a year or two ago. Yet each one holds a special place in my heart. It doesn’t matter how long we’ve known each other; what truly matters is the time we spend together, filled with engaging conversations and shared laughter. Our age binds us with a particular bond, a unique understanding that comes from navigating the complexities of life, and it enriches our interactions in ways only we understand.
A few of us no longer live near each other, which makes our gatherings even more precious. We treasure the moments when we can be together, embracing the joy of reconnecting. I host a Christmas Tea each year when everyone is home for the holidays, transforming my living room into a warm, inviting space filled with festive decorations, the aroma of spiced tea, and the sound of soft music in the background. This cherished tradition allows us to catch up on what’s been going on in our lives, sharing updates about our retirement, families, and personal journeys, while indulging in laughter at past memories. We also take the time to acknowledge sadness. As time goes by, there seems to be more loss, and it binds us together in shared sorrow, deepening our connections and reminding us of the importance of cherishing each moment.
As we age, we become more attuned to what truly matters in life—those experiences shared with the ones who hold significance in our lives. These moments of connection, laughter, and love shape our memories and define our happiness. Whether it’s the joy of a family gathering, the warmth of friendship, or the simple pleasure of a quiet evening with a loved one, these experiences often prove more valuable than any material possession. In a world that often prioritizes wealth and status, it’s crucial to remember that the richness of our lives lies in the relationships we nurture and the meaningful memories we create together.
Peace be with you.

Beautiful. I’d LOVE to crash your Christmas tea. 😂 You are right though…it’s spending time with the ones we love that make life rich. 🙏
