Curated Chaos

My Living Space

In chaos, there is fertility.

Anais Nin

Sparse will never be used as a description of my decorating style. Occasionally, I do attempt to edit my surroundings. Clutter clearing was a popular term a few years ago. I am not opposed to clearing away life’s excess. My issue is that I can’t decide what constitutes clutter as opposed to treasured possessions.

I have decided the curated chaos best describes my interior design approach. I want to be surrounded by that which fills me with peace and happiness. When I walk into my house, I want to leave the world’s disarray behind. I want to step into a backdrop of comfort. Flowers brighten the space. Favorite books offer a sense of tranquility. My husband’s collection of Lomonosov Russian porcelain animals adds a unique touch. Friend’s artwork inspires creativity. Family photos evoke happy memories. These are things that matter to me.

If you have managed to wade through the rambling of these first few paragraphs, I will come to the point. Surround yourself with whatever makes you happy. Your opinion is the only thing that matters. Social media is filled with influencer posts telling us how to live our lives. As we become older, we realize the only opinion that truly matters is our own. Whatever makes you happy. Focus on that.

Peace be with you.

  1. I think if it makes your heart happy, it’s not clutter. 💝
