A New Day

Colorado Mountains

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I woke up this morning with the realization that I was indeed a year older. There was no point in sugar coating the reality of what was. I couldn’t turn back time and live the past year over. Moving forward was the only available option.

My intention is to use time that remains to create the life I want to live. Recently, I read about leveling up. Creating days filled with tranquility, contentment and joy. Leaving distress and struggle behind. So much is a personal choice. Deciding what we will allow into our lives and what we refuse to accept.

I want to wake up each day and be surrounded by peace. To hear the Mourning Doves singing in the tree outside the window. Smell the aroma of my favorite coffee brewing. Savor the flavor of freshly made bread from our neighborhood French bakery. Listen to classic jazz playing in the background.

I don’t have time to deal with tension, gloom and pessimism . What is done is done. It’s a new day. Time to move on and live the time remaining in the best way possible.

Peace be with you.

  2. This is truth and another reason I cling to the Serenity Prayer. Leveling up at our age looks different than it did before the age of 50. Clearing out a fully lived life creates ample space for peace to reside. 🧡

  6. Grace, Happy Birthday!

Thank you for writing this. The Emerson quote or poem resonates deeply. A friend sent it to me when I agonized over ending a very long term friendship that had gone sideways. I had enough of the ‘drama’.

I find as I age I opt for ‘comfort and convenience’ rather than drama and hubbub. I’m with you on this. 🙂
