A Leap of Faith

To take the first step in faith, you don’t need to see the whole staircase.

Martin Luther King

Let me start with this. The photo is AI generated. I was curious about how specific I could be and still get the image I desired. Not too bad. It was an interesting experiment. Of course, if I had been quicker I could have taken an actual photo.

Earlier this month, my husband decided to start feeding our neighborhood squirrels. We have an empty planter on the back patio, he filled with a mixture of nuts and cranberries. It didn’t take long for a couple of squirrels, with a nest in a nearby tree, to realize they didn’t have to travel far for breakfast.

A couple of days later, I noticed a large magpie, sitting on the rail near the planter. He waited patiently until the squirrel had finished and then hopped down to eat what was left.I thought about the quote by Martin Luther King. That magpie had faith that even though he couldn’t see beyond the squirrel sitting in the planter. There would be something left for him. He didn’t need to see the whole staircase to take the first step.

Many times I have been guilty of wanting more verification before I made the first move. I would ask God for additional proof. Sadly, the moment passed by and it became a missed opportunity. We need to believe in God’s grace. I’m working on that.

Peace be with you. These are difficult times.
