I only know that I know nothing.
Socrates
A modern version of the Socrates quote would be “You don’t know what you don’t know”. I recognize there is much I don’t know. Yet, occasionally the Universe decides it’s time to remind me. In case I had acquired any delusions.
This morning was one of those days. As I sat at the table staring at my toast and coffee, I wondered where I’d gone wrong. I thought by the time I’d reached my age, I was beyond being surprised by other’s actions. I am a little old for a Pollyanna attitude. But, you don’t know what you don’t know. So, there I sat shaking my head at my own naivety. Pay attention, that quiet whisper in my ear said, “People don’t always live up to your expectations”. “Alright”, I answered, “Now what?”
There will be no screaming and yelling. No storming the doors. It isn’t who I am. Besides, it has already been done. I am left with quiet resignation. Not resignation that the ship will never right itself. Just knowing that this is where we stand for the moment. The best thing may be to acknowledge where we are, so we can move on.
I have received several emails and texts from friends today. Wondering how we could have been so wrong. I wish I had an answer. Elections results will be dissected and poured over ad infinitum. That might be helpful someday. It does not change where we are now . Still, there is always hope for the future. To quote Winston Churchill, “Never, never, never give up.”

Well said.
My impression is that many are feeling disillusioned.
Your head shaking, I believe, was being replicated in many places and by many people around the World.

I agree many are disillusioned. We will need to find a way forward. ⭐️

“The best thing may be to acknowledge where we are, so we can move on.” You can’t move forward, if you don’t know where you are. Great advice. I keep trying to come up with words of encouragement for family and friends. Words escape me . . . but I’m sending positive thoughts and stand behind what you wrote: Never, never, never give up.

I, along with you, am trying to be supportive of family and friends. I think you’re right. Looking for the positive might be the best approach. ⭐️

Many, many of us never anticipated this result. It’s been a tough time – you’re not alone. But we forge forward at whatever speed we do, because that is what we do. We’ll always be kind. 🙂
