An October Walk

Our Neighborhood

I’m so glad we live in a world where there are Octobers.

L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

I have never waited for the calendar to announce the first day of autumn. For me it begins at the start of September. As I turn the calendar to a new month. I change my laptop wallpaper to a photo of brightly colored leaves. I’ve waited long enough for the season to start.

Just looking at the vibrant colors of the trees makes me happy. Sadly, the photo is not from this year. Lack of rain and warm temperatures have conspired to deprive us of fall color in the city. Sadly, it seems it is one of those times when the trees give up. Without a chance to show their vibrant colors, they allow their leaves to turn brown and drop from the branches.

We have been experiencing temperatures in the nineties through September and into October. Not common for Colorado. Yesterday morning, I awoke to a forecast of an actual fall day with temperatures in the seventies. I was ecstatic! I planned a long walk through one of the many parks we are fortunate to have in our neighborhood. Enjoying the cool breeze on my face. Breathing in the chilly air. I treasured every moment. Even though, today we are back to the nineties, I was grateful for one day to experience autumn weather.

In this time of my life, I have learned to stop and enjoy exceptional moments when they happen. We don’t know if they will come to us again.

I agree, we should seize the moment while we are able.

  3. Just walking through the park on that one day of cooler temps gives us hope. It’s like a sneak peak at what’s on the way. Your part of Colorado is acting like Texas! 🧡

  4. I’m seeing a little bit of red and yellows in the trees, but nothing like the tree in your picture. Wow. Looks amazing. I’m with you, try to take one day at a time. Enjoy the journey.
