A Work in Progress

Eyes On, Johnathan Saiz

You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously.

Sophia Bush

I heard this Sophia Bush quote in a meditation. It confirms what we all know. Life is complicated. There are no easy answers. I’ve been reading, The Book of Joy, by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Douglas Abrams. It chronicles a week spent together to celebrate the Dalai Lama’s eighth birthday and to contemplate the elusive quest for joy. Reading it, I realize the joy of living is possible for all of us. We continue to be a work in progress.

I’ve written, in the past, about my Christmas Tea. We are five, old friends gathered around my table for a yearly reunion. Some have moved away and have come home for the holidays. This is the only time, throughout the year, we are all together. In the thirty plus years we have known each other, there have been many changes in our lives. We are not the same woman we once were. Through it all we have found a way to be there for each other.

Our time together is one of laughter and sharing. Hosting Christmas Tea is something I look forward to each year. We are getting older and the future becomes less sure. I don’t know where we will be at this time, next year. My hope is that, once again, we will be able to sit down with a cup of tea and share time together. No matter what the future holds , we are creating memories we will have forever. Life goes on. We change and grow, but friendship remains.

The memories are precious and sustaining.
The friendships and time spent together create the memories. How fortunate and joyful that we have the experience of witnessing one another’s progress.

Here is to a joyful tea time, with your long time friends.

      2. There is value to all friends, both old and new. New friends build memories. Old friends share a history of what’s past as well as sharing the present and making new memories.Thank you for your good wishes.
