Step by step, moment be moment, we live through another day.
Anne McCaffrey
Every weekday morning, I follow the same routine. I start with a cup of coffee and, if I remembered to buy them at Trader Joe’s, a pain au lait au chocolat. Otherwise, I settle for a piece of toast. I watch the news while I eat. Followed by meditation and writing in my journal. I write a minimum of one page, with a fountain pen, in a lined notebook. Sometimes it’s random thoughts or it might be an idea for a future blog post. I always start with something I’m thankful for.
There are days when I look at the lined page and wonder how I will fill it. I am determined not to get up until I have finished. Line by line, I accomplish my goal. It’s written quickly without editing. It might not be pretty, but there is no judgment. It’s done.
Today, I was thinking about how one page of writing, each morning, translates into a plan for larger goals. Set an achievable goal. Set aside time to accomplish it. Don’t give up. If you commit to it, you can do it.
Life is not as complicated as we make it. Try not to be so hard on yourself. If you have done your best, be happy with that. Accept that there are going to be things and people you can’t change. Stop trying. Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t. Enjoy the time you have left.
