Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Hugo, the Poochon

It ain’t no use putting up your umbrella till it rains.

Alice Caldwell Rice

Are there people who never worry? I’m sure there must be, although it seems inconceivable to me. I have spent too many hours, hours that I will never get back, worrying about things that didn’t matter or never happened. As the years have gone by I like to think that I have been able to eliminate much of the worry that consumed my life, unfortunately it is an addiction that is easy to fall back into.

Don’t you love people who say, “Stop worrying”. Okay, now that you said that, I’ll stop. Remember when you mother would tell you not to fall down. I put it in the same category. I understand the advice is well intended. It’s just not helpful. I want to stop worrying. Unfortunately, I have to figure out how to do that on my own.

As I mentioned, as I become older, I find I worry less. I wish I could tell you the fool proof formula for making it happen. I can tell you that faith in a power bigger than myself has helped. Occasionally, I just need to be reminded.

  1. I think everyone worries. Some show it, others keep it in. But maybe there are a few unimaginative ones who don’t think much, don’t worry much.
I do. But as you say, as one grows older, worries about small things decrease. My answer to the well meant Stop worrying is just Tell me how.
