I recently received a birthday card I love. Underneath a picture of Dorothy, from The Wizard of OZ, it says, “There is no place like Paris. There is no place like Paris.” It makes a lot of sense to me. If I had magic shoes that would take me anywhere, I hope that I would reach for something more than Kansas.

I’ve been thinking about going back to Paris. It is my favorite place in the world. For me, making the decision involves many ifs, ands, and buts. I have never been one of those people that could just go for it. I wish I was. Especially now, as we just begin to come out of a worldwide pandemic, I hesitate to make plans. Paris has returned to lockdown. What will the next months look like?  Does it make more sense to wait until next year?

I think for me, for now, visiting Paris will be in a holding pattern. I know myself well enough to know if I make plans for a trip  in the next few months, I’ll spend the time worrying about my decision. It doesn’t mean I won’t go to Paris. It just means it is a plan for the future. Meanwhile, I’ll dream.

I hope you have goals and dreams you’re looking forward to. Goals to act on and dreams to think about. Both are important.
