Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your misfortunes, of which all men have some.
Charles Dickons
Looking through my photos, I came across this scene from a wedding reception we attended, several years ago. Even with dark clouds threatening a downpour, we stayed dry through dinner. I thought what an awesome scene this would be for a Thanksgiving gathering. I wish it were possible. Grandmother would quote the Scottish proverb, “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride”, when I expressed my wishes. So, in other words, probably not happening, this year.
Have you ever done the exercise listing positives and negatives next to each other on a sheet of paper? I was thinking about this, earlier this week. There is no doubt, as we begin this holiday, there are some things stacking up on the negative side. If we move across to the other side of the paper, I think we can find several listings that we can tally as positive. Family, friends, shelter, good health, food to fill our table, whatever we can list, on this Thanksgiving Day. This is the time to count our blessings and give thanks for what we do have.
